The Medications section of the Patient summary allows users to review all medications the patient has been on, past or present. It allows the user to see a full history of each medication with a single click of a button. This way there is no need to scroll back to past notes in the chart to understand when something was started, or why it was stopped, or when the last refill was. Instead, all of this information is summarized in a modal that can be seen by clicking on the medication.
Step-by-step
By default, only active medications are shown:
By hovering over "Medications" and then clicking on the slider icon, you can show All medications, or Inactive medications:
Clicking on any of the medications (active or inactive) will bring up a modal that includes the history of all commands that touched that medication.
For example, clicking on "amoxicillin 500mg tablet", the following information comes up:
As you can see, there are many different fields, that include:
- Date: this is the date that the command was committed.
- Command: this is the command name. It is also a permalink! Clicking on the command name will open a new window and show the command in the note to which it was added.
- Staff: this is the Prescriber, for commands that send prescriptions (Prescribe, Refill, and Adjust prescription). It is the command committer for commands that do not have a prescriber (Medication statement, Stop medication),
- Details: this presents additional information specific to each command time.
Adjust prescription commands
If "Lisinopril 10 mg" is adjusted to "Lisinopril 20 mg" using the Adjust prescription command, then what is happening is that Lisinopril 10 mg is being stopped, and Lisinopril 20 mg is being started. You will see the "Adjust prescription" command in the modals for both medications.
