Telehealth is a method of delivering clinical health services to patients at a distance using interactive audio and video telecommunication. Telehealth helps people get access to the care they need by overcoming the barriers of distance, time, quarantining, stigma, and/or the patient’s own lack of mobility.

Q: What is the difference between a Telehealth visit note and an Office visit note?
A: A Telehealth visit note is fundamentally like an office visit note with a header, body and billing footer. EM coding, modifiers and POS codes must be correctly added according to payer rules.
Q: How will my patient access the virtual exam room?
A: Patients with verified contact information receive an automated appointment reminder and a link to the virtual exam room for their Telehealth visit. Please see our how to enroll a patient for email and text article to learn more about how to verify patient contact information.
Q: What if my patient has not received the link/reminded?
A: Right click (Windows) or command click (Mac) on the blue video camera button to copy the link address and paste it into a message for the patient.
Q: What if my patient is not set up with their patient app?
A: You can provide the link verbally!
Q: Does the link to my Virtual Exam Room change?
A: Links to individual provider Virtual Exam Rooms are always the same. We suggest you maintain a reference list of provider personal ID's for this very occurrence.

Step by Step
Scheduling an appointment via the Schedule
- Navigate to the desired appointment date/time on the Schedule
- Click and drag on the desired time slot and a new appointment card appears
- Change start and ending times on card, if needed
- Fill out the available entries:
- Link the patient: type patient name into field
- Enter in type of visit: select Telehealth
- Reason for visit: type in the patient's reason for visit
- Click Book Now
NOTE: On the Schedule a video camera icon indicates which appointments are via Telehealth.
Scheduling an appointment via the Patient Chart
- Navigate to the desired patient's chart
- Click on New Note to the right of the search bar
- Select Appointments
- Fill out the appropriate appointment fields, refer to our appointments article if needed
Starting Telehealth Visit
- Click on the Telehealth Visit
- Check in the patient using the Check in button at the bottom of the note (if it hasn't already been done)
- Click on the blue video camera icon in the upper right of the note header to open the provider's Virtual Exam Room in a new tab
NOTE: Telehealth visit notes have a Video Camera icon and are labeled as Telehealth by default. Reason For Visit will overwrite the title.
