Introduction
Communication between members of the patient's care team is essential to providing care to the patient. To capture documentation from other providers related to the patient's care the document can be uploaded via data integration. Documents such as these are referred to a Specialist Consult Reports within Canvas.

Tips & Tricks
- A colonoscopy should not be entered under the gastroenterology or surgical specialist types. Colonoscopy has its own specialist type that when satisfies the care protocols when selected.
Step by Step
This process begins in Data Integration with the desired document already uploaded and selected
- Search for the patient in the Link to Patient field
- Select the appropriate patient
- Select Specialist Consult Report as the document type
Note: According to the document type that you have selected, prompts will appear. If the information is required in order to link the document, a red asterisk will appear next to the name.
- Select a Reviewer from a drop-down list
- Link the uploaded document to an originating referral if one exists in the chart. If one does not exist in the chart, skip this field.
- Review Mode has three options to select from:
- Review Required
- Already Reviewed Offline
- Review Not Required
- Enter the Clinical Date in mm/dd/yyyy format
- Enter in the specialty of the specialist in the respective field
Tip: Scroll through the options provided in the drop-down or start to type and related options will start to appear.
- Enter in a comment in the corresponding field if applicable
- Select Ready for Clinical Review
View Specialist Consult Reports
- Navigate to the designated patient chart
- Locate the badge icons on the top right
- Select the Consult Reports icon
Tip: A red badge above indicates a report that needs to be reviewed. - Locate the document on the report search pane
- Select the desired document
- Click on the downward arrow to expand and view the following options:
- PDF: view the original PDF
- Assigned: change the assignee
- Edit: modify report name, date of report, add/edit any comments or change the document type completely
- Select PDF to open a PDF of the document in a new tab of the browser
Edit Specialist Consult Report
- Navigate to the designated patient chart
- Locate the badge icons on the top right of the Schedule View
- Select the Consult Reports icon
- Locate the document on the report search pane
- Select the desired document
- Click on the downward arrow to expand and view the following options:
- PDF: view the original PDF
- Assigned: change the assignee
- Edit: modify report name, date of report, add/edit any comments or change the document type completely
- Select Edit
- Make the desired changes to:
- Report Name
- Date
- Comment
- Change document type
- Select Save
Remove Specialist Consult Report
- Navigate to the designated patient chart
- Locate the badge icons on the top right of the Schedule View
- Select the Consult Reports icon
- Locate the document on the report search pane
- Select the desired document
- Click on the downward arrow to expand and view the following options:
- PDF: view the original PDF
- Assigned: change the assignee
- Edit: modify report name, date of report, add/edit any comments or change the document type completely
- Select Remove and a confirmation modal appears
- Confirm by selecting Remove
